An assistant superintendent of police (ASP) was found dead at the Mirpur Beribandh (Embankment) in the city's Rupnagar area on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Police recovered the body of ASP Mizanur Rahman, posted in highway police, from near Birolia Bridge on the embankment around 11:00am, said Inspector (Operations) of Rupnagar police station Mokammel Haque.
There were marks of assault on different parts of the body, he said, adding that the ASP, draped in highway police trousers and half-sleeved grameen check shirt, might have been strangulated to death.

Mizanur, who joined Bangladesh police as a sub-inspector in 1988, set out from his Uttara residence after Fajr prayers for his workplace at Savar, police said.
It was still not clear whether he was killed on the spot or his body was dumped there after being killed elsewhere.
